  • Moving on up…
GroupMe continues to grow, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Today, we have a few exciting announcements about what we’re doing to make sure GroupMe continues to be the best way to keep in touch with your real-life network. The future is looking bright…
Let’s get started!
A new acquisition
First of all, we’re thrilled to announce today that we’ve acquired Sensobi.
Sensobi was one of the first companies to recognize that your true social network is on your mobile phone. Launched two years ago out of the 2009 Boston class of TechStars, Sensobi has emerged as a leading social address book and personal CRM for the BlackBerry. Today, the company serves hundreds of thousands of users in over 150 countries.
When we met Sensobi co-founders Ajay Kulkarni and Andy Cheung several months ago, we realized that we all shared the same vision: to help you stay in touch with your real life social network. This acquisition will allow us to continue good work towards that vision while expanding our presence on BlackBerry.
They’re doing an awesome job so far, and we can’t wait to see what GroupMe can do with Andy and Ajay as part of our team.
New hires
The team continues to grow! Since we last updated you, we’ve hired two more engineers to help us build GroupMe.
Neil Sarkar joined us recently as Support Engineer, where he has been making sure that everything works like it’s supposed to, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. He was previously the lead developer at VaynerMedia, building apps for Gary Vaynerchuk’s projects and for the company’s clients.
Mike Novak has joined Geoff on our Android team and is already making contributions that will keep our Android app the best in the business. Previously, Mike was the lead Android engineer at mobile advertising provider Medialets, and has been working with the Android platform since 2007. We can’t wait to show you what our Android app can do with him on board.
A new office
With our full-time staff now at 17 employees, we were growing too big for our old space. Last month, we left our cozy share with Jumo in Soho for a space to call our own in Flatiron. It’s sunny, spacious, and fun… and best of all, everyone loves it. More on this later… #)
Of course, we’re always looking for more awesome talent to join our team here in the new office. If you love GroupMe and want to help out, we’d love to hear from you.
